International work

NYTKIS was originally set up as an actor for international cooperation between women’s organisations. Over the years, our domestic advocacy work has grown stronger alongside our international work, but international action and cooperation remains at the heart of our activities and our unique approach inspires our colleagues around the world.

We meet international guests, speak at international seminars and conferences and actively cooperate with embassies in different countries on women’s rights and gender equality issues.

We are involved in a number of international networks.

 We

  • participate in the UN World Conferences on the Status of Women and follow-up meetings
  • we represent Finland in the European Women’s Lobby, the umbrella organisation of European women’s organisations, and our Secretary General is a member of its Board of Directors
  • we are a member of the European Commission’s EU Civil Society Platform against Trafficking in Human Beings, which meets twice a year
  • we are active in Nordic cooperation
  • In addition, every four years we are responsible for compiling the NGO shadow report to the UN CEDAW Committee, which monitors the implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women.
