NYTKIS participates in various UN processes both in Finland and internationally. We closely monitor the actions of UN Women and the implementation of UN agreements on women’s rights, such as the Beijing Declaration, which Finland has signed. We collaborate with authorities responsible for the practical implementation of these agreements, as well as with other civil society organizations.
The 25th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration will be celebrated in 2020, and we are part of the working group assessing the implementation of the agreement in Finland.
We are involved in the activities of the UN’s Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), under the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). The theme for the 2022 meeting was promoting gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls in the context of climate change. In 2023, the commission will focus on innovation, technological change, and education in the digital age to achieve gender equality and empower women and girls.
We have also participated in the monitoring of Finland’s Agenda2030 actions coordinated by Fingo ry. Goal number 5 is gender equality, which we aim to promote both nationally and internationally. The current assessment is that no country in the world will achieve full gender equality by 2030, but we are actively working towards that goal.
