European cooperation

European Women’s Lobby (EWL) is the largest European coalition of women’s organisations, of which NYTKIS is a national member. The European Women’s Lobby is made up of over 2000 women’s organisations and is active in promoting women’s empowerment and equality. We are involved in EWL projects and, when requested, we give opinions on ongoing political processes, such as the preparation of directives.

Last year’s President, Fatim Diarra, is a member of the EWL Board and her deputy is our Secretary General, Silla Kakkola. We also participate in the work of the EU Civil Society Platform Against Trafficking.

The EWL Observatory on Violence Against Women coordinates and monitors work on the prevention of violence against women in the European Union. We are also represented in EWL’s Brussel’s Call network on prostitution policy.

We are also involved in the national bodies of the European Social Fund: we are represented in the Steering Group for the evaluation of the Structural Funds programme and in the Monitoring Committee of the Structural Funds programme. We also participate in the Structural Funds Communication Network.

The Istanbul Pact and the GREVIO shadow report
In early 2023, Finnish NGOs drafted a shadow report for the Council of Europe’s expert group on violence against women and domestic violence, GREVIO. The shadow report maps the state of the work against violence in Finland from different aspects. NYTKIS has been involved in coordinating the report together with Lyömätön Linja Espoossa ry.
